When Is Black Friday Deals 2018

When is Black Friday 2018?

July 21, 2018 by BestBlackFriday.com Team | Updated 9th April, 2020, 5:48 PM

Black Friday 2018 will take place on Friday, November 23, 2018 , which is the day after Thanksgiving. Compared to previous seasons, this year's date is much earlier than normal. That means our coverage will start earlier than usual, and pre-Black Friday sales will begin popping up in late October and towards the very beginning of November.

As usual, BestBlackFriday.com is here to provide you with all of the latest holiday news, including Black Friday 2018 ads, leaks, store hours, deals, and other important news.

Early Black Friday 2018 Predictions

While our official predictions are still a little over a month away, many things are going to be the same as last year. We expect the first toy list in early September, with the first official toy book coming in early October. The first Black Friday ad should come in early October, with a lull period until the most important leaks come in November. Here are a few early date predictions for the most important events this upcoming season.

  • First Toy List (Walmart) – September 5
  • First Toy Book (Mills Fleet Farm) – October 5
  • First Black Friday Ad (Harbor Freight) – October 3
  • First Major Black Friday Ad (Kohl's) – November 1
  • Big Ad Scan Leak Week (Target, Best Buy, Walmart) – Nov. 4-10
  • First Cyber Monday Ad (Dell) – October 31
  • First Pre-Black Friday Sale (Amazon) – November 1
  • As usual, expect ads from Walmart, Target, and Best Buy to come towards the latter part of the second week of November. Amazon will start it's annual 'Countdown to Black Friday Sale' in early November, which really continues throughout the month into Cyber Monday. In September, keep an eye out for our annual Ad Scan Leak Predictions article with potential release dates for more than 100 stores and ad scans.

Media Coverage and Consumer Interest Will Be Higher Than Ever

According to CNN, shoppers spent $5 billion online last year on Black Friday, which was an increase of 16.9 percent. In addition to more deals being offered online, the increase makes sense for a variety of reasons. In 2016, the presidential election caused a delay in holiday shopping purchases and research, as CNBC noted. Our data at BestBlackFriday.com showed the same thing, with traffic and searches finally picking up after the election. Here are a few screenshots from Google Trends.

    Black Friday Interest 2016

With no election in 2017, research and shopping started well before the middle of November.

    Black Friday Interest 2017

As the two graphs show, the election had a major impact on Black Friday interest for the end of October and early parts of November in 2016. Things recovered in 2017, and 2018 should be more of the same. In addition to there being no major events this year, the media is also covering Black Friday — and holiday shopping in general, more than ever.

During our recent Amazon Prime Day coverage, we could not help but notice how many news outlets picked up our Prime Day Vs. Black Friday comparisons. Despite Amazon's now annual midsummer event ruling July, Black Friday is still the day that all other sales are compared to — and for good reason.

What does that all mean? More deals and more extensive coverage. Retailers know that Black Friday is as much of an online event as Cyber Monday now, which means more and better online doorbusters. Despite some retailers still clinging to ancient in-store only doorbusters, others are posting their best deals online. In order to remain competitive, most stores will be forced to offer an equal online selection of deals, which is great news for everyone. More digital journalists covering Black Friday more extensively also entices retailers to offer even more online deals and be extra transparent with news.
