Nikon has a good track record of producing cameras that portrait photographers love. Thanks to their color science, the tank-like build quality of their cameras, and the vast library of prime and zoom lenses that can be used, Nikon cameras suit the genre well. Nikon hasn't transitioned into the world of Mirrorless cameras quite as quickly as other manufacturers. However, there are still some mighty fine Nikon cameras around for portrait photographers to choose from. The Nikon D750 has become legendary within the portraiture world thanks to its robust build, fantastic image output, and very nice price point. Five years after its launch, and it's still one of the first cameras I would suggest to anyone getting into portrait photography.

The two Full Frame Mirrorless cameras Nikon has introduced are also great for photographers. Recent firmware updates have made eye and face detection work very well, and tracking is also excellent. Couple these updates with the fact that you can use the shiny new Z mount glass (as well as F Mount lenses with an adapter), and you have two compelling options. Cons

Single XQD card slot may be a deal-breaker for photographers with certain workflows
Colors on the rear LCD were inconsistent when compared to EVF
Autofocus performance (before recent updates), while better than theNikon Z7, still leaves much to be desired
Certain settings were oddly organized within the menus
There is way too much settings information displayed on the rear LCD, often getting in the way of you framing your shot

Little things annoy me, like not being able to push the joystick in to bring the focusing point back to the center
Why the hell is there an XQD card slot?
I'd really prefer dual card slots
Changing the white balance is the slowest thing
While we understand Nikon's philosophy in including a dedicated ISO button, we'd have preferred a dial of some sort
The muscle memory learning curve is steeper than most other cameras
